Cleanse
Clarins Cleansing Milk with Gentian This was on sale for £14 in Boots (December 2007).
Tricia: I have treated myself to Clarins cleansing milk for a number of years now. As I am still prone to occasional blackheads and blocked pores, having had a really greasy skin when younger, I use this product which is for combination or oily skin. My skin is quite sensitive and I find this cleansing milk rather soothing.
It’s a creamy milk which I apply with cotton wool pads and gently wipe over my face, although Clarins recommend warming the cleanser in the palm of your hand, then placing the hands flat against the face and quickly removing them 5-6 times, followed by removal with a water rinse or tissue.

Kiehl’s Facial Fuel Energising Scrub

Review submitted by Jason
Summer is the time when our thoughts linger away from the office or home and to sun and fun. But with all of the activities that occupy our thoughts and our desire to be out in the sun lapping up its bountiful
rays, our skin can pay the price…especially our faces. Longer nights and more even packed weekends can leave us looking tired and run down when returning to our weekly routines. To combat this, I have found a refreshing and cleansing face wash that I just had to share, Kiehl’s Facial Fuel Energizing Scrub. The combination of caffeine, vitamin-E, menthol and wonderful smelling orange and lemon peel make this face wash perfect for first thing in the morning, especially after a long weekend!! I have found that using this face wash every day is perhaps a bit too much, but on those days when you need a pick me up or want your skin to feel and look younger, then reach for the Kiehl's Facial Fuel Energizing Scrub.
Pat comments: Kiehl’s products for man make great gifts. The packaging is very plain (not girly) and the products are pleasant to use and effective.

Origins
Clean Energy
£14 for 200ml (July 2008)
Looks like olive oil, with similar consistency. Wonderful aroma - full of citrus scents. This was sold to me as suitable for combination skin, and I have found it too rich for the oily sections of my face. A look at the Origins website has revealed that this product is really intended for dry or sensitive skin! So: good product, not such good advice.

Boots
Botanics Skin Brightening Toner
£3.99 for 250ml
This is an effective product at a budget price (translates to £1.60 for 100 ml). As with most Boots products, it is sometimes available on special offer. The label does warn that this product may increase your sensitivity to the sun, and the possibility of sunburn.
Boots
Expert Sensitive Gentle Refreshing Toner
£2.49 for 100ml
With no scent, and a mild formula, this is an ideal product for sensitive skin. Those of you with oily skin may need a slightly more drying product.
Clarins Toning Lotion. Alcohol free with iris for combination or oily skin. This was on sale for £14 in Boots (December 2007).
I use this product after cleansing, although personally I find it a little too strong for my eye area and use Clarins eye make up remover for that. It’s refreshing and removes the final traces of residue from the skin. Clarins also sell cleansing milk and toning lotion for normal and dry skin. Score 4/5
Liz Earle
Instant Boost Skin Tonic
£10 for 200ml
What a divine smell! This gentle, non-drying formula should suit most skin types. The price is high compared to the Boots products, but those of you who like the Liz Earle range may want to compliment the cleanser with this toner.
Moisturise
Boscia
Oil-Free Daily Hydration SPF 15
$27.00 (US dollars) for 1 oz. (price correct November 2008)
review by Gemma:
This is a light and gentle moisturiser which glides easily onto your skin. I have found in the past that some moisturising products are too heavy for my combination skin and even that they seem to have blocked my pores. This moisturiser is perfect for skin that is prone to oily breakouts and it helps to control shine throughout the day. The sun protection factor is only 15 which may suit some, although these days I would prefer to wear a higher factor throughout spring and summer.
If you need a light moisturiser that suits sensitive skin, is moisturising and yet controls shine, then this is a genuinely useful product.

Dr Hauschka
Rose Day Cream Light
£20 for 30ml
This is a pleasant light day cream suitable for dry to combination skin. It does not make the oily parts of my face seem greasy. It comes in a tube, which seems more hygenic than a pot in which one has to dip ones fingers. Light rose scent is pleasant.
The website for the UK, www.drhaushka.co.uk provides information of products and treatments and includes a store finder. You can also buy on-line.

Origins Have a Nice Day £25 for 50ml
Day-time moisturising cream with SPF 15 sunscreen. Absorbs easily, does not irritate, pleasant smell. For dry/combination skin. The Origins UK website offers 2 sample-sized product with every purchase. www.origins.co.uk ( published 3 April 2008)
Origins Night-A-Mins Moisture Cream £25 for 50ml
This cream is designed to help skin repair while you sleep. The
label says ‘hypnotic aromas summon the sandman’; the smell reminded me of butter cream icing. I enjoyed using this and thought that my skin looked a bit better. I would purchase this product again. Recommended for dry and combination skins. Origins make Night-A-Mins moisture lotion for sensitive and combination skin, available for the same price as the cream. (published 17 April 2008)
