The Hunger Site stemmed from a simple idea that was oh so brilliant. It was launched in June 1999 to support the United Nations World Food Programme. People visiting the site click on the 'Give Free Food' button, the food donations are funded from advertising revenue. During the first nine months the site raised over nine million pounds of food for the hungry, becoming too large for it's oringinator to manage. The Hunger Site is now owned by 'GreaterGood.com' which also operates sites to fight breast cancer, child poverty, illiteracy, to preserve the rainforest and to help animals. In February 2007 the Hunger Site achieved a milestone with 500,000,000 cups of food donated to the hungry. Around 220,000 people visit The Hunger Site each day to click to support the work of charities fighting hunger. The Hunger Site is currently working with Mercy Corps which works in Indonesia, Feeding America and Millennium Promise which works in Uganda. It's so easy to do, especially if you make 'The Hunger Site' your home page as this presents a reminder to click each day when you log on. For just a few seconds of your time you can help to feed others at no financial cost to yourself. There are also shopping opportunities on the site to futher support causes of your choice.
